All Kinds Of Disappointing!

In all honesty, this book probably deserves a better rating (but not more than 2.5) but I'm SO frustrated with Toon right now.
Okay okay, before you yell at me , let me tell you - I adore Paige Toon's books, I really do. Johnny Be Good is one of my all time favorites in the chicklit genre. I started reading One Perfect Summer expecting it to blow me away like Toon's books usually do. I mean, I pre-ordered it and everything! However, as you can see, that did not happen.
The writing's still got the same heart-fluttering effect and the main romantic interest is..kind of swoony but One Perfect Summer is really high on the drama scale and not in a good way. I noticed Alice's extreme, obsessive emotions at first and I thought it was a bit unhealthy but that was only until I met Lukas..he's worse. I don't understand the point of this idiotic plot, I really don't.
The parts with Joe are bittersweet and I have nothing against him because he's seriously hot (who doesn't love a troubled boy who gets his happy ending in Hollywood?) but right from when Lukas entered the story until the end, all I could think was that he was crazy. Lukas was controlling, over-possessive and mean. YET SHE MARRIED HIM! She's probably crazier. Even when Lukas tried to do something romantic like asking Alice to move in with him, marry him or have babies with him, it seemed as if he was trying to compete with is ex. I just couldn't see his appeal.
Oh and I haven't even gotten to the worst yet.. *drumroll*
I DON'T KNOW WHO SHE REALLY ENDS UP WITH!
Sure, Toon hints at the guy but right before the Epilogue, Joe says something to Alice that made me wonder if that's how the book ended or if it was a happily ever after ending. *Sigh* One Perfect Summer has one of the most frustrating, unsatisfactory endings I have ever read about. She did the same thing with Pictures of Lily.
Why do you put me through that every time Paige???
I realized the one thing I've disliked about all of Paige Toon's books - her female protagonists are all weak. None of them are tough and they take all kinds of crap from their guy, except maybe Daisy.
That's it, I've given up on Paige Toon. I loved Johnny Be Good but haven't read any other book of hers that even comes close.
EDIT :
I just found out Toon's writing a sequel (Thank You!) and I'll probably pick it up because this book left me feeling messed up and I sincerely hope the sequel makes up for it. I'm editing the rating because this story's not finished yet. Nothing has changed - I still love Joe and hate Lukas - but *fingers crossed* I'm counting on the sequel to give me the answers I'm looking for.

Paige Toon will leave you wanting the next book!

I only discovered Paige Toon a few months ago and read Johnny Be Good and Baby be mine within a matter of weeks. Following on from that I made sure I had a few more of her back catalogue to read in the future. Her new release One Perfect Summer was released on the 10th May 2012 and I was looking forward to reading it.
Alice is 18 and takes a summer trip with her parents down to Dorset. She happens to meet a young man Joe who steals her heart. However, after reading the first few chapters it becomes clear that Joe's life is not that idyllic and Alice realises that although she has fallen for him, things will not be easy. Joe is an absolute sweetheart of a character and I adored him and him and Alice's relationship. However, before long things go wrong and Alice ends up leaving Dorset to make her way to Cambridge to start University. The one thing that is different is the fact that she leaves broken hearted and without Joe.
We see her life move on to the next phase and although I was disappointed that we do not see Joe Alice grows on me and we see her settle into University life with her friends. Some of the other characters we meet are fun and very readable such as Jessie. Before long Alice meets Lukas a German student who is studying at a nearby university. Lukas is a rich boy who sweeps Alice off her feet to a certain degree.
The second half of the book is spent watching Alice move on with her life and what happens to her next. Lukas is not a nice character and I spent half of the time asking myself what Alice was playing at. But as the story continues you can see the predicament she has got herself into and things start to become if not clearer certainly a lot more understandable. As usual with a Paige Toon book she draws you in with her easy writing style and knack of telling a story that is sometimes bittersweet.
The best part of the book for me was without a doubt the ending. Paige Toon has done once again what she managed to do with the book Johnny Be Good, which is leave the reader on a slight cliff-hanger with a big question mark. I can only hope that there is a follow up to this, otherwise it's an unnecessarily cruel ending for us fans. This book will certainly keep you reading, and at the end you will certainly be left wanting more.

For those of you that are new to the wonderful world of Paige Toon, you wont be disappointed.
From the outset, Paige catapults you into another world, a new life and manages to bring the drama, raw emotion and thrill to every word that adorns each and every page, and you're always left wanting more.
One Perfect Summer is number six in the line up, and each book I read, the bigger fan I become of Paige Toon. The only disappointment is having to wait until the release date of the next book '
One Perfect Summer takes you to a time of broken hearts, broken dreams and the undeniable power that is the memory of your first love.
