Excellent Info - limited help - some contradiction.

This book was very informative - I just wish I had found this information earlier in my marriage. The information will clear away the fog and help you begin to feel more confident and not at fault but I'm not at all sure it does much to solve anything. In fact, in a long marriage this help and suggestions are too little too late. However, for those who will stay regardless, it's probably very good information to have. Also, there is some internal contradiction in that the book suggest strategies to fix things but then also says fixing things not really in the hands of the non-PA spouse. It also suggest actions unconcious or unavoidable as a result of childhood traumas but then suggest persons knows exactly what they are doing and purposely frustrating you. Suggest strategies to manage and minimize effects of PA on other spouse but at same time say you might have to walk away or stay and expect little from the PA spouse!
I'm no PHD but my advice - if you're in the first 1-5 years of a marriage, read all these books give the partner a chance to turn it around in 3-6 months and have hope but if they can't/won't acknowledge problems nor show consistent improved/changed behavior KNOW that it's NEVER going to be different so stay at your own peril but know exactly what kind of marriage you will have - empty, frustrating, unloving, lonely, hurtful, unfulfilling, unsafe and untrusting. This is exactly the kind of marriage long marrieds already have! If you're not yet married just walk away from the person before you're in any deeper- just consider the person, a jerk or a**hole or drama queen and let it go because there's no reason to figure out how to remain in a "relationship" with such people when you have nithing stopping you from simply walking!

This is difficult to review. The information is good, and it is good for the one on the receiving end to help understand whats happening. The responsibility lies on the abuser though, who is unlikely to be the one reading. Remember that you can lead a horse to water, you cannot make him drink.
